Understanding Viewpoint Art Therapy

Browse through our FAQs.

  • You're not alone. Many people are curious about art therapy but aren't quite sure what it involves. At its core, art therapy uses the creative process as a tool for self-exploration, expression, and healing. You don’t need to be “artistic” at all. In fact, it’s often about the process, not the product.

Art therapy can help you access thoughts, feelings, and insights that may be hard to put into words. Whether we use drawing, painting, collage, or just simple mark-making, it’s a way to tap into a deeper part of yourself in a safe and supportive space.

  • It’s a common assumption—and a great question! While art therapy is often associated with children, my practice is focused exclusively on adults. I specialize in working with high-achieving professionals, caregivers, and neurodiverse adults who are navigating stress, burnout, life transitions, or longstanding patterns they’re ready to shift.

If you're an adult who's curious about how art therapy might help you process emotions, reduce overwhelm, or reconnect with yourself, you're in the right place. You can learn more about my approach here.

  • I see clients in-person at my office in Olney, Maryland, located at 3401 Olandwood Ct, Suite 204, Olney, MD 20832.

Please note my office is on the second floor and does require navigating stairs.

I also see clients online via telehealth for adults located in Maryland, DC & Missouri.

  • You’ll receive reminders via email for your sessions, which include a link for accessing the secure telehealth platform. You can access session from a phone, tablet, or computer.

Licensing laws require you be physically present in the state I’m licensed in (MD/DC/MO), but other than that you can attend session from any private space with reliable internet connection.

I offer early morning tele-health sessions to make accessing therapy convenient.

  • Absolutely. I’m affirming of LGBTQIA+ identities, neurodiversity, racial and cultural identities, all body sizes, as well as poly and kink communities. These may not be my specific areas of clinical expertise, but they’re never something that will be questioned or judged here. If it’s part of who you are, you’re safe to bring it into the room.

If you’re looking for a therapist whose clinical work specifically focuses on one or more of these identities, I’m happy to connect you with trusted local clinicians who specialize in this work.

  • Yes. I offer online therapy, in-person therapy, and hybrid therapy options so you can choose what works best for you.

Some clients prefer in-person therapy because they value being in the same physical space for deeper connection and hands-on art therapy work. Others choose online therapy (telehealth) because it offers convenience, flexibility, and the ability to attend sessions from home or the office.

Many clients also choose a hybrid therapy approach, alternating between in-person and virtual sessions depending on their availability, travel schedule, childcare needs, or what feels most supportive at the time.

My goal is to make therapy accessible and sustainable for your real life. You’re welcome to participate fully online, fully in person, or through a mix of both.

My office is located at 3401 Olandwood Ct, Suite 204, Olney, MD 20832.

I am licensed to provide telehealth therapy in Maryland, Washington DC, and Missouri. If you are attending sessions online, you must be physically located in one of these states at the time of your appointment,

  • I am considered out-of-network with insurance, meaning that I do not accept insurance directly, but will provide you with a Superbill (detailed receipt) to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Payment is due in full and will be billed to the card of your choice the day of sessions.

Curious about how to use your insurance for therapy — or wondering whether it’s better to use in-network or out-of-network benefits? I’ve written a blog post breaking down the different types of insurance options for accessing therapy, including the pros and cons of each.

If you’re planning to use your out-of-network (OON) benefits, check out my step-by-step guide on how to use OON benefits for therapy, including a printable list of questions to ask your insurance company if you’re unsure about your coverage.

  • Your first appointment will focus on 3 things:

    1. Hearing from you about why therapy and why now.

    2. Sharing a bit about myself, how I work, and answering any questions you have.

    3. Going over administrative details including scheduling, cancellations, payment etc.

  • This varies greatly depending on your goals, and how much time you commit to making changes outside of our therapy sessions.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy approaches anxiety a little differently than many anxiety treatments. Instead of focusing only on managing or reducing anxious feelings, IFS helps you understand the part of you that carries anxiety and the role it plays in trying to protect you.

Many people discover that their anxiety developed as a protective response to situations that once felt overwhelming, unsafe, or out of control. Rather than trying to silence or ignore anxiety, IFS therapy slows down and helps you get curious about it. Together, we explore what your anxious part is trying to communicate, what it’s protecting, and what it needs.

As you build a more compassionate relationship with these parts of yourself, anxiety often becomes less intense and less controlling. Instead of relying on avoidance or coping strategies alone, IFS therapy helps you develop deeper self-trust and make meaningful, lasting changes so life can feel more fulfilling and not just manageable.
